Here are some reasons why you should consider painting your roof:
Weather Protection
Roof paint provides a protective layer that shields the roof from various environmental elements such as UV rays, rain, snow, hail, and wind. It helps to prevent water infiltration and leaks, which can cause damage to your roof structure.
Aesthetics
Roof paint can be used to improve the appearance of your roof. It comes in various colours and finishes, allowing homeowners to choose a look that complements their home’s style.
Extended Lifespan
Applying roof paint can extend the lifespan of your roofing material by protecting it from weather-related wear and tear.
Mildew and Algae Resistance
Good quality roof paints are formulated to resist the growth of mildew, algae, and other organic matter, helping to maintain a clean and attractive roof.
Elastomeric Properties
Good quality roof paints have elastomeric properties, meaning they can expand and contract with temperature changes without cracking. This flexibility is especially important in South Africa where we experience some extreme temperature variations.
Reflectivity and Insulation
Premium quality roof paints are designed to have reflective properties, helping to reduce the amount of heat absorbed by the roof. This can contribute to better energy efficiency in buildings by keeping the interior cooler and reducing the need for air conditioning.
The specific type of roof paint or coating used can vary depending on the roofing material (e.g. metal, tile, flat roofs, asphalt or shingles) and the climate conditions of the area. It’s important to select the right product for your roof’s specific needs.
HOW MUCH ROOF PAINT DO YOU NEED?
Calculating the amount of paint required:
To calculate the surface area of your roof:
- Take the Property Floor Area X 1.333 (to allow for the roof’s pitch)
- Add another 33% for corrugated roofing (steel or tile)
- Take the total and divide by Roofkoat spread rate, and then multiply by number of coats
