Sparcolux Varnish

High Gloss Wood Varnish

Sparcolux Wood Varnish is a durable, high gloss varnish that is suitable for interior and exterior use. This alkyd based varnish offers good UV resistance for long lasting, high quality protection and is suitable for most woods.

This general purpose varnish offers excellent water repellency and is resistant to cracking, peeling and abrasion. It is suitable for use on doors, windows and trims, furniture and garage doors. Not recommended for flooring.

Pack Type 

Suitable for application to beams, skirting boards, doors, window frames, counter tops, furniture, fascia boards, fences, trellis, garden furniture, garage, doors, shutters, and other interior and exterior wooden surfaces.

  • Ensure that surfaces are sound and free from dust, oil, grease, dirt, and debris. Surfaces must be thoroughly dry ( <12% moisture content).

     

    New Wood

    Sand the surface with 120-180 grit sandpaper, sanding in the direction of the wood-grain.  Remove dust.


    Previously varnished wood 

    Strip completely by deep sanding. Wipe thoroughly with clean water-damped cloth and allow drying. Sand to a smooth surface finish. Remove dust.

    Previously coated with a wax sealer or oil-based wood preservative

    It is not advised to varnish wood that has previously been waxed or preservative coated. Mechanically sand until raw wood is exposed with no product residue. Wipe clean with a damp mineral turpentine cloth to neutralise. Remove dust.

    Weathered or Discoloured wood

    Sand with a 100 grit sandpaper, removing the weather discoloured layers, to an even smooth finish. Remove dust. Alternatively treat wood with a Wood Reviving product. Allow drying. Sand to a smooth finish. Remove dust. 

    Previously painted wood 

    Strip completely by deep sanding or by using a paint stripper for wood. Wipe thoroughly with clean water-damped cloth and allow drying. Sand bare wood to a smooth surface finish. Remove dust.
