TECHNICAL ADVICE

GENERAL PAINTING RULES TO FOLLOW

MIXING & STIRRING

All paints should be thoroughly mixed before use. As a general rule of thumb, a 5 litre will take at least 5 minutes of stirring, while a 25 litre bucket will require at least 15 minutes.

STORAGE

Paint tins and buckets should be stored in a cool dry place. Extreme temperatures should be avoided.

THINNING

Thinning of paint materials should ONLY be done where recommended, and MUST be done with the exact materials prescribed and to the exact volumes. DO NOT thin any paints without express instruction to do so. Un-prescribed thinning of paints will damage your paint product irreversibly. Paint that has been thinned against recommendation is not returnable.

RECOMMENDED PRODUCTS

All painting materials prescribed need to be the Sparcolux product recommended. This guarantees results of the highest quality.

PAINT APPLICATION

PRIMERS

Primers should be applied by brush only, unless spray is specifically recommended. Subsequent coats may be applied by brush, spray or roller.

TIME BETWEEN COATS

Each coat of paint should be allowed to harden before the next coat is applied.

DRY SURFACE

Paint should NOT be applied to any surface that has structural or superficial damp.

CLEAN SURFACES

Before any painting is done, surfaces must be free from all contaminants including condensation, dirt and efflorescence.

UNDERCOATS

Undercoated wood or metal should NOT be left for undue time periods, but should have subsequent coats applied in due course.

WEATHER

No exterior/ exposed painting should be done during adverse weather conditions, such as rain, fog, etc.
